STITCH DEPARTMENT

Stitch Department is a local clothing practice that is passionate about the environmental impact of the fashion and textiles industry. That's why we strive to encourage you all to sew, mend and generally slow down the fashion process!

We run several sewing workshops at Department in Ryde, a former ladies department store that is soon to be transformed into a community arts space!

Our workshops welcome everyone, with a range of classes and a great chance to be with like minded sewers and get excited about your projects!

MARCH WORKSHOPS

Sewing Club

Saturday 15th March, 9.30-12.30pm £20.00
Bring along a project you are working on and create with fellow stitchers! Use of machines and equipment (or bring your own if you need advice on your personal machine!)
A great chance to sit in a dedicated space to sew.
What equipment is available? Sewing machines, overlocker, pattern masters, scissors, pins, needles, darning mushrooms, threads, crochet hooks, pencils, fashion and textile books, and of course, Amber's brain!

FREE Kid’s Hand Embroidery Workshop

Saturday 15th March, 1.30-3pm FREE
Free workshop as part of Family Day at Department
As we celebrate the opening of our heritage exhibition, we welcome kids and family to this hand embroidery workshop, using different threads, textures and techniques. We will learn several hand embroidery stitches to get you started and then you can get creative! We will have a range of different colour threads and scrap fabrics to create your piece.
From age 8+. Please book a space for both yourself and your child. Only one adult per child please.

A creative community workshop for all hand stitching techniques and projects.
Bring your embroidery, mending, stitching, knitting, crafts, crochet or whatever you're working on! Join like minded stitching enthusiasts. All ages and abilities welcome! Biscuits provided!

Clothing Alteration Workshop

Saturday 22nd March, 10-12.30pm £25.00
If you’re looking to be able to alter your own clothing, this workshop is the perfect introduction.
Working with real clothing, Amber will go through the most common alteration needs, and go through the best techniques to use including hemming, taking items in, taking items out and bust amendments. The last 30 mins will be dedicated to any questions and showing Amber your own items to ask for advice on the best way to tackle them!

Make a Stand Up Zipped Pouch

Saturday 22nd March, 1.30-3pm £25.00
Join us in this workshop where we will be making a stand up zipped pouch finished with lining.
These are really easy to make (ideal for beginners) and can be used as washbags, make-up bags, pencil cases, organisers, whatever! We will have a range of fabrics to use but please do bring your own if you would like to use something specific.
All machines and equipment provided.
